BOSTON — Alex Tuch scored the game-winning goal at the 1:57 mark of overtime Monday night to clinch the Beanpot championship for Boston College in one of the most thrilling college hockey games you’ll ever see.

BC prevailed over rival Boston University in the first 1-0 game in the annual tournament’s 64-year history. It also was just the fourth-ever shutout in a Beanpot title game and the first since 1981.

Tuch provided the lone tally when his no-look wrist shot whizzed between two BU players and past goaltender Sean Maguire, who finished with 41 saves in a losing effort.

Maguire’s effort in net earned him Beanpot MVP honors, and he also took home the Eberly Award as the goaltender with the highest save percentage. His .970 mark was the third-highest in tournament history.

At the other end, Thatcher Demko stopped all 30 shots he faced to backstop BC to its 20th Beanpot title and its sixth in seven years.
