The Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 win over the Carolina Panthers kept alive a rather strange trend among recent Super Bowl champions: The team wearing white tends to prevail.
Since the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl XXXIX win over the Philadelphia Eagles, 11 of the last 12 winners have worn white jerseys. The Green Bay Packers broke the streak in Super Bowl XLV when they beat the white-clad Pittsburgh Steelers.
Of course, this is all just a strange coincidence, but teams tend to be pretty superstitious, so it wouldn’t be surprising if next season’s NFC home team chooses to wear white. Not to mention, the Broncos might have chosen white out of superstition themselves, as they were 0-4 in orange, and quarterback Peyton Manning’s only other Super Bowl win was in white, too.
The Panthers, however, lost their first Super Bowl while wearing white, so it looks as though colors haven’t been on their side.
