If only we all had friends like Stephen Graham.

Graham, 8, wrote Cam Newton a letter this week and included a paper trophy to cheer up the Carolina Panthers quarterback, following their loss to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50, North Carolina station WFMY reported Thursday. Graham watched Newton’s downtrodden and abbreviated postgame press conference and decided the NFL MVP could use a pick-me-up.

“Dear Cam Newton, I’m sorry you lost, but here is a paper trofy,” Graham’s letter reads.

Graham is aware Newton is receiving plenty of criticism in the aftermath of the Super Bowl but he doesn’t care too much about it. After all, he and Newton are “friends.”

“When a friend falls down, the other friend always picks him up,” Graham said.
