It was easy for a wide receiver to set himself apart during the second day of NFL Scouting Combine drills.
Only 10 wide receivers ran the 40-yard dash in sub-4.50 seconds, and six players didn’t even crack the 4.65 mark. Two wide receivers definitely helped their draft stock at Lucas Oil Stadium after being surprise invitees to the combine.
See which six players shined during Saturday’s workouts:
QB Carson Wentz, North Dakota State
The FCS product checked every box at the combine on Saturday, even though his 4.77-second 40-yard dash wasn’t quite as fast as many expected. Wentz, at 6-foot-5, 237 pounds, ran a 6.86-second three-cone and 4.15-second short shuttle — better numbers than many receivers. He also recorded a 30.5-inch vertical leap and 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump.
Wentz also impressed with his big arm during positional drills.
QB Jeff Driskel, Louisiana State
Driskel, a Boston Red Sox draft pick and former Florida Gator, led all quarterbacks with a 4.56-second 40-yard dash, which surely will open the eyes of many NFL scouts. Driskel is known to be athletic, but that’s an elite time for a QB.
The 6-foot-4, 234-pound quarterback also shined with a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump and 4.25-second short shuttle.
WR Trevor Davis, California
Davis went into the combine projected as an undrafted free agent, but he might have made himself some money Saturday with an impressive workout. Davis ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash with a 6.60-second three-cone drill at 6-foot-1, 188 pounds. He also recorded a 38.5-inch vertical leap and 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump.
WR Marquez North, Tennessee
North also was projected to go undrafted before the combine but had a fantastic workout. He ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, 6.90-second three-cone and 4.13-second short shuttle at 6-foot-3, 223 pounds.
North also has 10.25-inch hands and broad jumped 10 feet, 3 inches. He now has a much better chance of hearing his name called at the 2016 NFL Draft despite catching just six passes in 2015.
TE Austin Hooper, Stanford
Hooper elected to declare for the draft after his sophomore season, and that appears to be a wise decision after Saturday’s combine performance. He was among the top tight end performers with a 4.72-second 40-yard dash, 9-foot, 9-inch broad jump and 7-second three-cone. He also has massive 10 5/8-inch hands.
TE Ben Braunecker, Harvard
The Ivy League prospect impressed with a sub-7-second three-cone drill, running the drill in 6.90 seconds. He also flashed his speed and agility with a 4.73-second 40-yard dash and 4.20-second short shuttle. He topped the performance off with a 35.5-inch vertical leap and 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump.
