BOSTON — David Pastrnak’s dominant first period Wednesday night culminated in the first penalty-shot goal of his young NHL career.
A beautiful feed from linemate David Krejci freed the Bruins winger for a breakaway, and Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Derrick Pouliot hauled him down with a desperation hook, resulting in a penalty shot.
Pastrnak converted, employing a hesitation move to beat goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and give Boston a 1-0 lead.
The 19-year-old had multiple other scoring chances in the opening frame, as well, accounting for four of the Bruins’ first seven shots on goal. His penalty-shot tally gave Boston three in one season for the first time in franchise history, with Brad Marchand providing the first two.
He wasn’t done, though. Pastrnak beat Fleury again with a conventional — yet still very impressive — goal early in the second to make it 2-0 Bruins.
