John Scott might have stolen the show at the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, but don’t forget about Denna Laing.
The hockey world once again showed its incredible bond and level of support for its own with a touching tribute to Laing, who suffered a spinal cord injury while playing in the Outdoor Women’s Classic at Gillette Stadium on Dec. 31 ahead of the Winter Classic.
On Sunday in Nashville, the NHL upped its efforts to raise awareness for Laing, who continues her rehab process in the Boston area. Her sisters and mother were actually in attendance for the All-Star Game and in addition to a $200,000 donation to her recovery efforts, the following video tribute was played on the game telecast and inside the Bridgestone Arena.
It didn’t end there, either, for Laing. She shared this tweet shortly after the video tribute of her getting a call from country music star Jennifer Nettles, who performed during intermission of the game.
The NHL and the entire hockey community has done plenty to help spread the word for Laing and her family in the days and weeks following the game. The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens auctioned off game-worn jerseys following their game early in January, a game that featured a stirring pregame ceremony. Bruins captain Zdeno Chara also recently paid Laing a surprise visit.
