Joseph Blandisi is a name you probably haven’t heard, but he made unofficial NHL history Tuesday night — and not in a way you want to do it.

The New Jersey Devils rookie forward embarrassed himself and the league with the most egregious, over-the-top dive the sport has ever seen.

Or at least very close to it.

Blandisi wanted to catch the referee’s attention and did so in the biggest way as he went flying across the ice in order to sell a penalty. Mission accomplished, as his antics did draw a penalty — on himself, two minutes for embellishment.

To his credit, though, Blandisi took accountability for his actions after the game.
