Erin Andrews has been living in fear since a stranger video-taped her nude through a hotel-room peephole and posted it on the Internet.
The FOX Sports reporter is suing the owners of the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University for $75 million, claiming negligence after Michael David Barrett was able to find out what room she was staying in, request an adjoining room and take the video of her while she was changing before a Vanderbilt football game in 2008. Andrews’ father, Steve, testified Thursday in the civil trial and went into details about how his daughter, who worked for ESPN at the time, is “a shell of the person she used to be” because of the incident.
“My daughter has been scared for eight years,” Steve Andrews said, per the New York Post. “Eight years she has been terrified that there’s something else out there. That there’s someone else looking for her.
“She’s depressed. She cries, she’s full of anxiety, she’s a very, very changed person. She’s not the girl that we used to know.”
Steve Andrews said even a tap on the shoulder is enough to make his daughter anxious and that she covers her windows with blankets. He also recalled the phone call he received from Andrews after the video was put on the Internet.
“She was just screaming, ‘I’m on the Internet. I’m naked. Everything I’ve worked for is done. We’ve got to get it down. We’ve got to get it down,’ ” she told him, per the Post. “I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing.”
Barrett pleaded guilty to interstate stalking in 2010 and was sentenced to 30 months in jail.
