There’s an exciting winter sports event coming to Boston next week, and Mother Nature did her part Friday to set the stage.

A snowstorm continuing throughout most of the day dumped about six inches of snow on the city. That’s good timing, because Fenway Park will be the site next week of “Big Air At Fenway,” a special event on the U.S. Grand Prix big air snowboarding and freeskiing tour, where Olympic athletes compete in big air events.

Fenway already is equipped with a 140-foot-high snow ramp for the Feb. 11-12 event, and Friday’s weather made things a whole lot more scenic at the home of the Boston Red Sox.

Now that’s more like it.

“Big Air at Fenway” promises to be an exciting event, as elite athletes like Olympic slopestyle skiing gold medalist Joss Christensen, slopestyle snowboarding Olympic champion Sage Kotsenburg and Olympic snowboarder Ty Walker will participate.

The event will air live on NBC Sports Network, with the snowboarding events taking place Feb. 11 and the freeskiing events happening Feb. 12. Ticket information and more can be found at redsox.com/bigair.
