This Jack Eichel kid might end up having a pretty good career.

Eichel, the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, already is making his mark, and the Buffalo Sabres forward might have turned in his finest highlight so far Sunday night against the Colorado Avalanche.

Jaws dropped throughout First Niagara Center in Buffalo after Eichel gathered the puck at his own blue line, turned and skated back up the ice, in and out of traffic and around defenders before unleashing a wicked wrist shot by Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov.

Eichel certainly is in the running for the NHL’s Calder Trophy as the league’s rookie of the year. With Sunday’s tally, he’s up to 17 goals on the season, to go with 21 assists.

The most telling statistic, however, might be the Sabres’ total points on the season. With Sunday’s win, Buffalo now has 52 points, which was its full-season total for 2013-14 and two fewer than last season’s number. And the Sabres still have 25 games to play.
