LOS ANGELES — Defenseman Rob Scuderi is returning to the Los Angeles Kings in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks for defenseman Christian Ehrhoff.

The two Stanley Cup contenders announced the deal Friday.

Scuderi returns to Los Angeles, where he spent four seasons from 2009 to 2013. He played a key leadership role on the Kings’ 2012 championship-winning team while also providing steady defense.

He left for Pittsburgh as a free agent in 2013, and the Penguins traded him to Chicago on Dec. 14. Scuderi went scoreless in 17 games for the Blackhawks.

Ehrhoff had 10 points in 40 games for the Kings this season, his first with the club. The 33-year-old German also sat out as a healthy scratch and was sent to the AHL this month after clearing NHL waivers.
