Los Angeles on Tuesday unveiled its official logo and slogan for the city’s bid to host the 2024 Olympics.

The logo features a soaring angel with outstretched arms and legs illuminated by the sun. It inspires the slogan: Follow the Sun.

According to TeamUSA.org, the soaring figure in the logo is a symbol of athletes reaching for their dreams, the original Spanish name for Los Angeles — “the City of Angels” — and the Angeleno spirit of optimism and progress that defines Southern California. The colors used in the logo are comparable to those often seen in the Los Angeles sky at dawn and sunset.

“This will be an Olympics that will change our lives,” Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti said during a ceremony to unveil the logo and slogan. “All we’re asking is the opportunity to host it.”

According to Garcetti, 97 percent of the proposed venues for the city’s bid already are in place. Now, L.A. has an interesting logo to throw around in its attempt to wow the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Los Angeles hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984. The city is competing against Budapest, Paris and Rome for the 2024 games, and the IOC will choose the host city in September 2017.
