We hope Jenrry Mejia enjoys posting pictures of his post-workout “swell” on Instagram, because that’s the only thing his performance-enhancing drugs will be good for anymore.

Then again, the New York Mets pitcher won’t need to workout very often considering Major League Baseball just slapped him with a lifetime ban from the game for his third positive PED test.

Mejia already was in the midst of serving his second PED suspension when news of the straw that broke the camel’s back came in Friday. He becomes the first player in history suspended permanently under MLB’s “three strikes and you’re out” PED policy, and joins MLB all-time hits leader Pete Rose as the only living players serving a lifetime ban.

ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin pointed out one possible way Mejia could be re-instated somewhere in the future.

It certainly is a long shot for Mejia, who was suspended twice last season after starting as New York’s Opening Day closer last April.
