NBA Players, Coaches Show Support For Monty Williams At Wife’s Funeral

A contingent of NBA coaches and players attended the funeral of Ingrid Williams on Thursday in Oklahoma City in support of Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams.

Williams’ wife died Feb. 10 from injuries sustained in an accident in Oklahoma City after her car was struck head-on by a SUV that crossed the center line after losing control. The other driver also died.

Among those at the funeral were coach Doc Rivers, Chris Paul and Austin Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers, coach Gregg Popovich, Tim Duncan and David West of the San Antonio Spurs, and the entire Thunder organization.

Doc Rivers missed his pre-game availability while traveling back to Los Angeles. Popovich arrived at Staples Center in time but declined to discuss the funeral.

“It was tough to see something like that happen to such a good guy,” said Austin Rivers, who played for Williams with the New Orleans Pelicans. “Ingrid is one of the sweetest people I ever met.”

Austin Rivers said Williams gave an “incredible” eulogy for his wife. The couple has five children.

“He probably was one of the strongest guys in there,” he┬ásaid. “I just told him we all love him.”
