Now this was the NBA trade rumor we’ve been waiting for.

The Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks have had discussions regarding a blockbuster megatrade that could send Cavaliers forward Kevin Love to Boston, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.

The deal mainly is centered between the Celtics, Cavs, and Love, but briefly expanded to include the Knicks in hopes of prying star Carmelo Anthony out of New York and uniting him with good friend LeBron James. In that deal, Cleveland likely would send Timofey Mozgov to New York. The center originally was traded from New York in the deal that sent Anthony to Madison Square Garden five years ago.

Anthony would have to waive his no-trade clause to be moved, though, and the Daily News writes that he “remains committed to the Knicks for now even if it means passing on the opportunity to join his longtime friend LeBron James in Cleveland.”

The Daily News had no further details about a potential deal, including what the Celtics might be sending out in return for any package. One might imagine that forward David Lee would be included, whose $15.4 million cap hit would help match salaries.

The news comes hours after Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told reporters that the team is not looking to make deals for Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford or Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard.
