SAN FRANCISCO — It’s hard to believe that about a year and a half ago people were suggesting Tom Brady’s career was over.
When the New England Patriots started the 2014 season at 2-2, many were wondering if the then-37-year-old quarterback was on his last legs. Instead, Brady led the Patriots to victory in Super Bowl XLIX — the fourth of his career — and had an astounding 2015 season with 4,770 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
That’s why when NESN.com’s Michaela Vernava asked NFL Network host Rhett Lewis on Super Bowl Radio Row this week if he’d take the over or the under on Brady playing two more seasons, Lewis gave an enthusiastic over.
“I’m not counting Tom Brady out for anything,” Lewis said. “After being around him for five years and seeing the way he works and the way he competes, like a fine wine, man, he just keeps going. So I say over.”
However, Lewis wouldn’t take Brady in every situation. When it came to who he’d want at quarterback if his team was down by four points at the final two-minute warning, Lewis picked the guy who’ll be leading the Denver Broncos against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.
“I still think (Peyton Manning is) arguably the best to play the game,” Lewis said. “I’ll give him the ball.”
