Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer Is ‘Very Close’ With Bill Belichick

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the New England Patriots wind up with at least one of the 14 Ohio State prospects who were invited to the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer was asked about his relationship with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick during the combine TV broadcast when he joined Rich Eisen and Mike Mayock in the booth.

“Very close, and it’s been that way for a long time,” Meyer said.

Eisen asked Meyer how often he “chitchats” with Belichick about football.

“He’s not a chitchat guy,” Meyer said. “He’s a text message guy. If he has something to say he’ll call or if I have something to say. Very short, brief and to the point.”

For those wondering, Belichick is not an “emoji guy” either.

Here’s a full list of Ohio State players invited to this year’s combine:

QB Cardale Jones
RB Ezekiel Elliott
WR Jalin Marshall
WR Braxton Miller
WR Michael Thomas
TE Nick Vannett
OT Taylor Decker
DE Joey Bosa
DT Adolphus Washington
LB Darron Lee
LB Joshua Perry
CB Eli Apple
FS Vonn Bell
FS Tyvis Powell

The Patriots drafted three players from Florida, Meyer’s old team, in the 2010 NFL Draft: linebacker Brandon Spikes, defensive end Jermaine Cunningham and tight end Aaron Hernandez. They drafted two Florida players in the 2006 NFL Draft: wide receiver Chad Jackson and defensive end Jeremy Mincey. The Patriots also signed former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow in 2013. Dominique Easley, the Patriots’ 2014 first-round draft pick, played under Meyer for one season at Florida.
