Richard and Cathy Nurse were two proud parents Thursday night in Ottawa.

Their son, Edmonton Oilers rookie defenseman Darnell Nurse, provided one of the many highlights in the Oilers’ 7-2 beatdown of the Senators, but it wasn’t a pretty goal or a nifty assist.

No, in this particular game, the 21-year-old used his fists to make an impact.

With Edmonton leading 6-2 in the third period, Nurse and Ottawa forward Max McCormick began exchanging shoves in front of the Oilers’ net. Those shoves escalated to punches, and although McCormick was able to get one or two decent shots in, Nurse quickly overwhelmed his fellow rookie and dropped him to the ice with a flurry of hard rights.

It was the second fight of Nurse’s young career — he also went at it with Milan Lucic back in December — and his mom and dad, who were in attendance Thursday night, appeared to love every second of it.
