Sundays at PNC Park could become “Family Days,” thanks to the Pittsburgh Pirates’ new alternate uniform.

The Pirates on Thursday unveiled new, alternate uniforms ahead of the 2016 Major League Baseball season. The threads, which the Pirates will wear on Sundays, are well-done throwbacks to those they wore during their glory years in the late 1970s, and the all-conquering 1979 team in particular.

Thirty-five years on, the Pirates will proclaim, “We are family,” just as the Sister Sledge hit they adopted in 1979 as their theme song once did.

Whether the Pirates’ new Sunday best will help them win the National League Central or advance to the National League Championship Series for the first time since 1992 remains to be seen. However, looking the part is a good starting point.
