Craig Smith deserves Nobel Prize consideration for helping humanity discover it’s possible to save one’s own shot in the National Hockey League.

The Nashville Predators winger did just Monday in his team’s 2-1 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens. Smith appeared certain to score in overtime with less than a minute remaining in the game. Then something only replays can explain happened.

Smith remained stuck on 13 goals for the season but redeemed himself by scoring the winner in the shootout.

After the game, Smith, 26, could see the funny side of his famous miss.
