NBA Trade Rumors: Celtics Gauging Nets’ Interest In Thaddeus Young Deal

There’s a new general manager in Brooklyn, and the Boston Celtics might be interested in doing business with him.

The Nets, who hired Sean Marks as their GM on Thursday just five hours before the NBA’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, have yet to make any moves. But both the Celtics and Toronto Raptors have shown interest in Brooklyn forward Thaddeus Young, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Mannix.

Mannix’s colleague, Adrian Wojnarowski, added that “several teams with interest” in acquiring Young already have reached out to Brooklyn.

Young is a solid big man who’s suffered through a few injuries and some brutal losing seasons through nine-plus years in the league. The Philadelphia 76ers selected him 12th overall in the 2007 NBA draft, and Young spent seven seasons in Philly before joining the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2014.

Young was traded to the Nets at last season’s deadline and has taken on a starting role in Brooklyn, averaging 15.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game through 54 contests. He’s in the first year of a four-year, $54 million contract with the club.

The 27-year-old would be a good complimentary piece in Boston’s frontcourt, but Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge likely will be careful in dealing with Brooklyn, given the C’s own several of the Nets’ future draft picks.
