For better or worse, the Sacramento Kings have changed their minds on a very, very important decision.

The Kings reportedly were close to firing George Karl, as ESPN reported Monday the coach’s dismissal basically was a formality and that the team would cut ties over this weekend’s All-Star break.

However, ESPN reported Tuesday, citing sources, that the Kings have changed their minds after a meeting with Karl. League sources told ESPN that Karl insisted he’ll make changes to his defensive schemes and practice routines. In return, he’ll keep his job — for now.

According to the ESPN report, Kings owner Vivek Ranadive had put the decision in the hands of Vlade Divac, the team’s general manager.

“George is our coach and we’re collectively working through our issues,” Divac said in a statement, per ESPN.com.

The Kings have shown promise at times this season, but they’ve struggled mightily as of late. Sacramento has lost four in a row and has only one win in its last 10 games.
