Conor McGregor will have to wait for his shot at history.
Rafael dos Anjos has pulled out of his fight against McGregor at UFC 196 with a foot injury, according to multiple reports. UFC is looking at potential options to keep McGregor on the card for the March 5 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, sources told ESPN.com, but this certainly throws a wrench into things.
McGregor, the current featherweight champion, was looking to become the first fighter to hold titles in multiple weight classes at the same time, as dos Anjos was set to defend his lightweight title at UFC 196.
This is the second time in seven months that a UFC champion has pulled out of a title fight against McGregor. Jose Aldo backed out of a title bout last July, though McGregor eventually fought Aldo at UFC 194 on Dec. 12, defeating the Brazilian via knockout in 13 seconds to become the new featherweight champ.
ESPN.com lists Donald Cerrone and Nate Diaz as potential replacements for dos Anjos at UFC 196, which is scheduled to feature Holly Holm versus Miesha Tate as the co-main event.
