The NFL offseason got off to an inauspicious start for Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy.

McCoy is being investigated for an alleged assault on two off-duty police officers in Philadelphia early Sunday morning, ABC 6 News in Philadelphia reported Monday, citing sources.

According to the report, the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Recess Lounge, where McCoy and a friend allegedly were involved in a “physical altercation” with the officers.

Both officers reportedly were hospitalized with injuries Sunday morning. No arrests were made.

ESPN reported Monday that McCoy’s friend was former NFL running back Curtis Brinkley, and that the incident started after a “a dispute over the purchase of champagne.” The officers reportedly sustained pretty serious injuries, as one suffered a possible skull fracture while the other sustained a broken nose, a broken rib, an eye laceration and a sprained thumb, according to reports.

The Bills released a statement acknowledging situation Monday morning:

McCoy rushed for 895 yards and three touchdowns on 203 carries in his first season with the Bills, which saw him miss four games due to injury. The 27-year-old spent six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to joining Buffalo and was the NFL’s leading rusher in 2013.

UPDATE (12:30 p.m. ET): The Philadelphia police released a statement providing more details of the incident. The statement says four suspects were involved in the incident, and CSN Philly reports former University of Pittsburgh wide receiver T.J. Porter also played a role.
