Scott Darling’s recent act of kindness toward a stranger might not win him the NHL Foundation Player Award but it should make him a sporting legend, nonetheless.
Twitter user and beer-league player Kane Van Gate on Sunday shared a story an Uber driver told him about an encounter he recently had with Darling in the Phoenix, Ariz., region.
We’d forgive skeptics for doubting the tale. After all, who does something like that?
Apparently, Darling does. The Chicago Blackhawks goaltender confirmed the story on Twitter hours later and again Monday while speaking to The Chicago Tribune, according to FOX Sports.
“I just started talking to him, was interested in his life, seemed like a good guy and just needed a helping hand,” Darling told The Chicago Tribune. “That’s kind of how it happened.”
Darling didn’t play Feb. 4 in the Blackhawks’ 5-4 win over the Arizona Coyotes. He didn’t need to. He already won that particular road trip.
