Warriors Fight To Have Peanut Butter And Jelly Ban Lifted From Team Plane

The Golden State Warriors’ biggest victory of the season took place off the hardwood.

The Warriors’ training staff decided to make the menu on the team plane healthier this season by cutting back on sugary treats. It seemed like a good idea in theory, but several people in the organization weren’t happy when they learned the new menu didn’t include peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, according to The Wall Street Journal.

You see, the Warriors are big on PB&Js. All of the standard ingredients reportedly sit on the training table in Golden State’s locker room before games, and players, coaches and executives swear by the simple, yet delicious sandwiches. So when the strength and conditioning staff that was hired after last season’s NBA championship banned PB&Js, the team decided to battle back.

“You gotta fight for your rights,” Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton told The Wall Street Journal. “If you believe in something you gotta fight for it.”

Walton, who filled in for head coach Steve Kerr earlier this season, led the charge as the Warriors sought to have the PB&J ban lifted. He complained to anyone who would listen, and general manager Bob Myers — another big fan of PB&Js — soon joined the fight, putting the training staff into a tough spot.

Finally, the training staff relented and lifted the PB&J embargo to the delight of many. Stephen Curry is among those who enjoy a nice PB&J, so some wonder if the superstar pulled a few strings.

“Steph likes peanut butter and jelly,” Andre Iguodala said, per The Wall Street Journal, “so we’re gonna let that slide.”

Some things really are worth fighting for.
