The WWE rumor mill is ablaze with a theory that former WWE champion CM Punk might be returning to the squared circle.

Punk, one of the WWE Universe’s most popular wrestlers, suddenly has reappeared on WWE.com with his own profile in the “alumni” segment of the site.

Additionally, superstar John Cena posted an Instagram photo of Punk’s Twitter avatar over the weekend.

Cena did something similar last month while teasing AJ Styles’ WWE debut, which gives further credence to the theory. And with several injured superstars leaving the WWE with a shell of its regular roster leading up to WrestleMania, bringing back CM Punk would be an epic boost for the company at the most important time of the year.

Except there’s basically no way this is going to happen for a relatively simple reason.

CM Punk signed a multi-fight contract with UFC, and it’s not a secret that UFC president Dana White and WWE CEO Vince McMahon don’t exactly appear to be best friends.

Even if Punk and WWE have resolved their issues that led to his departure, it seems inconceivable White would let McMahon just borrow the superstar — or steal him back entirely — before Punk ever sets foot in the octagon.

Then again, Brock Lesnar eventually returned (albeit after a long absence) and Ronda Rousey made a surprise appearance at WrestleMania last year so, really, anything’s possible.

Let’s just hope come April 3, it’s clobbering time.
