Daniel Bryan’s career in professional wrestling appears to be coming to a close.
The wildly popular WWE superstar announced Monday on Twitter that he is retiring. Bryan added that he’d be in his hometown of Seattle for “Monday Night RAW” where he’ll further explain his decision.
Of course, it should be mentioned that this could be a work/part of the act. However, given the injury issues Bryan (whose real name is Bryan Danielson) has experienced in recent years, it certainly is realistic to think he could be calling it a career.
In fact, it’s been almost expected at this point. Bryan has battled neck injuries and concussions over the past couple of years. He underwent neck surgery in May of 2014, eventually returning to action in early 2015. Shortly after his return, however, Bryan suffered a concussion. He appeared on TV in April of 2015, but he’s been out of action since then.
WWE reportedly wouldn’t let Bryan return until he received medical clearance from the company’s lead doctor. Bryan was cleared by his own doctors but never received clearance from WWE, and there was speculation he never would get the green light to return to the ring.
