Let’s preface this story by saying we have no idea where this photo was taken, or why it exists. But we do know it’s one of the coolest photos we’ve ever seen.
Current Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett, of course, spent six seasons with Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics and helped the C’s win their 17th NBA championship in 2008. The pair even spent a season together with the Brooklyn Nets in 2013-14.
But according to Garnett and his Instagram account, he and Pierce apparently knew each other way before they became NBA teammates.
Yes, that’s an (allegedly) 15-year old Garnett in a photo with a young Pierce at what might be a prom or gala of some sort. The two future Hall of Famers are separated by only a year — Garnett is 39, while Pierce is 38 — but Garnett grew up in Mauldin, S.C., while Pierce hails from Inglewood, Calif., so we’re still not sure how these two linked up as teenagers.
Still, it’s a pretty amazing foreshadowing of what was an awesome chapter in Celtics history.
