Is a fire in the sky responsible for Aaron Rodgers’ NFL success? Probably not, but it’s a question worth considering.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback revealed this week in his appearance on Pete Holmes’ “You Made It Weird” podcast that he saw an unidentified flying object in 2005, just before that year’s NFL draft. Rodgers explains in detail what he and former University of California teammate Steve Levy saw that fateful evening in rural New Jersey.

The Packers picked Rodgers with the 24th overall pick, and he since has become one of the league’s great quarterbacks.

Did his “Independence Day” moment have anything to do with the trajectory of his professional career? Maybe not, but there are plenty of NFL quarterbacks who don’t claim to have seen UFOs, and few of their on-field exploits compare with Rodgers’.

Just sayin’.
