BOSTON — The Bruins just can’t catch a break.
After a season’s worth of goals disallowed upon review, a third-period review Thursday against the Florida Panthers could ultimately be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Patrice Bergeron appeared to have a wraparound goal at the 8:03 mark of the final period, but Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo made an incredible save to rob Bergeron of the game-tying tally. Or so we thought.
After a lengthy review that took nearly six minutes to complete, referees concluded that there wasn’t irrefutable evidence to overturn the call on the ice of no goal.
The replay clearly shows otherwise, as the puck can be seen just inside the goal, between Luongo’s pads and the net.
An angry TD Garden crowd lost its cool in the moments after the blatantly missed call, and the game was further delayed due to beer cans and other objects being thrown onto the ice.
After the total momentum swing, the Panthers scored their third goal of the evening very shortly after on their way to a 4-1 win.
