With their collegiate careers now behind them, Yale’s Rob O’Gara and Miami (Ohio)’s Sean Kuraly officially are joining the Boston Bruins organization.
The Bruins have signed O’Gara to a two-year, entry-level contract and agreed to terms with Kuraly on an entry-level deal, the team announced Tuesday.
Neither contract will go into effect until next season, but both players will report this week to the Bruins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Providence, where they will play out the remainder of this season on amateur tryout agreements.
“We are excited to have Rob O’Gara and Sean Kuraly join the Bruins organization,” Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said in a statement. “They were outstanding college players, and both young men have tremendous character and leadership qualities.”
The Bruins drafted O’Gara, a 6-foot-4 defenseman, in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft. They acquired Kuraly, who was selected as the NCHC’s top defensive forward this season, in the trade that sent goalie Martin Jones to the San Jose Sharks last summer. Kuraly also was drafted in the fifth round in 2011, 18 spots ahead of O’Gara.
