DeMarcus Cousins came this close to doing something very stupid Monday night.
The Sacramento Kings mercurial star’s better judgment took over as he avoided throwing what could have been a devastating punch to Oklahoma City Thunder big man Steven Adams.
The two players got tangled up after they battled for the rebound as Adams — known for his ability to get under opponents’ skin — was in no rush to let Cousins run up the floor. A clearly frustrated Cousins wound up to throw a punch — and came real close to doing so — before thinking better of it and keeping his hands to himself.
If Cousins actually followed through and delivered what would have been a vicious blow to the back of Adams’ head, we could be looking at the biggest sports story of the year. Instead, it’s a sign of, dare we say, maturity from the big man.
Cousins had another fine night, too, scoring 35 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the Kings’ loss.
