Curt Schilling has been in trouble for controversial political comments before, and it appears the former MLB pitcher could be experiencing some déjà vu.
Schilling called into Kansas City’s 610 Sports Radio on Tuesday to talk with Danny Parkins and Carrington Harrison, the co-hosts of “The Drive with Danny and CDot.” The trio talked plenty about baseball, but his apparent dislike for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton wasn’t off the table. And ESPN now is looking into what he said.
The former Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Houston Astros, Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies pitcher didn’t hide his feelings for the Democratic front-runner on Super Tuesday.
“If she’s allowed to get to the general election before she goes to prison I’ll be stunned and I’ll be upset,” he said. “Because I think she’s shown her true colors all along the way and I’ll ask you this: Do you see her being anything even remotely different than what we’ve had?”
He added: “I hope she does (go to jail). If I’m gonna believe, and I’m not sure I don’t have any reason not to believe, that she gave classified information on hundreds if not thousands of emails on a public server after what happened to General (David) Petraeus, she should be buried under a jail somewhere.”
CNN asked ESPN for a comment on Schilling, and it’s response was, “We are addressing it.”
Schilling has a history of facing discipline for controversial comments, including when he was removed from ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” following a tweet comparing the percentage of Muslims who are extremists to the percentage of Germans in 1940 who were Nazis.
Since then, ESPN sent out new guidelines that say its employees “should refrain from political editorializing, personal attacks or ‘drive-by’ comments regarding the candidates and their campaigns,” according to CNN.
And Schilling’s latest venture in politics might be in direct violation of that new policy.
