Jim Harbaugh continued to gain exposure for himself and his football program away from theĀ gridiron Wednesday.

The University of Michigan head coach was in Florida where he got to immerse himself in another one of his loves: baseball. Harbaugh attended the Detroit Tigers’ spring training game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and served as first base coach.

Harbaugh, in his No. 4 road grays, looked thrilled to be back on the diamond one year after spending a day as an Oakland A’s first base coach.

“Very excited. I was more nervous before I threw out the first pitch (at a Tiger game last summer),” Harbaugh said before the game, according to MLive.com. “What a big thrill. To be in a big league park, being in the locker room, the skip’s office.

“It’s all very, very exciting.”

It’s hard to argue with the results, too. With Harbaugh manning the first base coach’s box, the Tigers scored four runs in the first inning, ensuring Harbaugh got plenty of work.

Harbaugh is in Florida with his team, as the Wolverines went to the Sunshine State for spring practices. In reality, the base coaching gig is the latest in some outside-the-box recruiting for Harbaugh and Michigan.
