Joe Kelly Continues Impressive Spring In Red Sox’s 4-1 Win Over Mets

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Joe Kelly pitched seven strong innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat the split-squad New York Mets 4-1 on Thursday.

Kelly gave up one run and five hits, striking out six and walking one. Kelly kept the Mets hitless until the fifth, when he gave up three singles.

David Ortiz singled home the go-ahead run in the sixth. Xander Bogaerts hit a solo homer and sacrifice fly.

Logan Verrett started for the Mets, going four scoreless innings and giving up two hits.

Mets pitcher Erik Goeddel, recently sidelined by a lat issue, made his first appearance of the spring. He went one inning and gave up two runs, including Bogaerts’ first home run in exhibition play.
