Johnny Damon Extends His Support For Donald Trump In Bid For President

Donald Trump continues to rack up endorsements from current and former professional athletes.

The Republican presidential hopeful had a big Tuesday, winning three states — Hawaii, Michigan and Mississippi — and getting an endorsement from former New York Yankees first baseman Paul O’Neill during his victory speech/press conference.

It appears former MLB outfielder Johnny Damon agrees with his fellow ex-Yankee, as he gave Trump an endorsement of his own Wednesday.

“I want (Trump) for president,” Damon told The New York Daily News on Wednesday. “I’m a Trump fan ever since I met him seven or eight years ago. Everything he does, he does first-class — his hotels, his businesses, his golf courses. The issues all the other politicians failed to discuss, (Trump) is bringing us up to speed.”

One of those issues, in the former Boston Red Sox outfielder’s opinion, is Trump’s controversial stance on illegal immigration.

“Everyone is calling him a racist. He just wants people to come into this country legally and fill out the proper paperwork. That’s how I’m viewing it,” Damon said.

“I can see other people’s views,” he added. “The country is so split. Building a wall is going to be tough to do, and there would have to be beefing up of patrols. He’s trying to make the country great. We’re worrying too much about what’s going on in Cuba, the Middle East. We have enough to worry about here.”

Damon knows Trump personally after appearing on “The Apprentice,” the real estate mogul’s former reality television show. And he’s willing to help his friend in any way he can.

“If (Trump) needs me anywhere, I’ll be there. He’s a good friend,” Damon said.
