Kevin Turner, a former New England Patriots fullback, died Thursday at 46 after a battle with ALS.
Turner was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in May 2010. He started the Kevin Turner Foundation, which researches links between brain injuries and ALS.
The foundation’s website posted a statement from Turner’s father, Raymond: “Myra and I lost a great son today. He will be missed so much. Thanks to everyone so very much for your support and prayers during this journey. He was ready to go to Heaven, excited he said, ‘Love y’all and God Bless.’ ”
Turner, a 1992 third-round draft pick by the Patriots out of Alabama, played in New England from 1992 to 1994, then finished his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, playing from 1995 to 1999. He had 236 receptions for 2,015 yards with 10 touchdowns and 160 carries for 635 yards with one score in his career.
