The time for guessing is over. Selection Sunday finally is here.
The final field of 68 for the NCAA Tournament will be announced live starting at 5:30 p.m. on CBS. Thirty-two of those teams already automatically qualified for the tournament as conference champions, and with upsets in multiple mid-major leagues, the bubble is as interesting as ever this year.
Teams on the bubble as the clock winds down are Temple, Michigan, San Diego State, South Carolina, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Valparaiso, Georgia, Monmouth, St. Mary’s, St. Bonaventure, Wichita State, Cincinnati, Tulsa and Pittsburgh. And with no more games left to prove themselves, everyone’s fate is now in the NCAA Division I men’s basketball committee’s hands.
Follow along below as the tournament field is revealed.
5:42 p.m. ET: North Carolina (East), Kansas (South), Virginia (Midwest) and Oregon (West) are the four No. 1 seeds.
5:55 p.m.: The South includes No. 1 overall seed Kansas, along with bubble teams Wichita State, Temple and Vanderbilt.
Villanova as a No. 2 seed isn’t a surprise, but its placement in the South is. The Wildcats could have played in Philadelphia down the road if they were placed in the East.
New Englanders will get to see No. 6 Arizona play the winner of No. 11 Wichita State-Vanderbilt and No. 3 Miami face No. 14 Buffalo at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.
6:10 p.m.: The top four seeds in the West are No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 Texas A&M and No. 4 Duke.
Holy Cross has the chance to win a tournament contest when it faces fellow No. 16 seed Southern in a play-in game. And the rest of the Providence games are No. 5 Baylor against No. 12 Yale and the Blue Devils versus No. 13 UNC Wilmington.
6:35 p.m.: The top four seeds in the East are No. 1 UNC, No. 2 Xavier, No. 3 West Virginia and No. 4 Kentucky.
Bubble teams Tulsa, Michigan and Pittsburgh all made it into the East bracket. This region also could face one of the more exciting second-round matchups if the Wildcats and No. 5 Indiana avoid first-round upsets.
6:47 p.m.: The top four seeds in the Midwest are No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Michigan State, No. 3 Utah and No. 4 Iowa State. Also, Syracuse joins Tulsa as a shocking inclusion in the field.
