Hockey fans looked on in horror Thursday night as one of the sport’s stars dropped to the ice and held his neck in pain.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban was stretchered off the Bell Centre ice following a nasty collision with teammate Alexei Emelin.

Subban did show some positive signs, though, including a thumbs-up to the fans as he left the ice and went to the hospital.

The team announced after Montreal’s 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres that Subban was taken to a hospital, where he underwent tests on his injured neck. The Canadiens added that the defenseman had “normal movement in extremities.”
