Brock Osweiler has a decision to make, and it will have large implications on the AFC.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that Osweiler’s free-agent decision will come down to the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans.

Osweiler is hitting the market at the perfect time. The 25-year-old was an important piece to the Broncos’ Super Bowl-winning team this past season, stepping in for an injured Peyton Manning midway through the campaign and winning five of seven starts. Osweiler completed 61.8 percent of his passes, throwing for 10 touchdowns and compiling an 86.4 rating.

Osweiler should be entering his prime, and he has leverage in dealing with the Broncos, who could find themselves in a real bind after Manning retired Monday. The Broncos probably can’t afford to lose Osweiler, which theoretically should drive up the price for the Arizona State product.

The Texans also seem like a good fit for Osweiler. Houston reached the playoffs last season despite receiving very little out of the quarterback position. Pairing Osweiler with a dynamic wide receiver such as DeAndre Hopkins should give the Texans a credible passing threat to go along with a very stout defense.

If Osweiler ultimately chooses Houston — or anywhere other than Denver — the Broncos likely would have to fall back on another free-agent option. Among available and potentially available free-agent QBs are Robert Griffin III, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Matt Moore.
