The New England Patriots reportedly locked up offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle before he could hit the open market.
The Patriots signed Waddle to a two-year contract extension rather than tendering him as a restricted free agent, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Wednesday. The Patriots claimed Waddle off waivers from the Detroit Lions in December. Waddle played in one game for the Patriots before suffering a shoulder injury.
Waddle started 24 games over three seasons with the Lions. He primarily was used as a right tackle. Waddle went undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2013.
The Patriots now have Waddle, Nate Solder, Sebastian Vollmer, Marcus Cannon and Cameron Fleming under contract for 2016 at offensive tackle.
