Jerod Mayo reportedly isn’t the only New England Patriots linebacker retiring.
Dane Fletcher also has chosen to retire, a league source told WEEI’s Chris Price on Wednesday. Fletcher tore his ACL late in the 2014 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and never came off the physically unable to perform list in 2015 after signing with the New England Patriots.
Fletcher, 29, came to the Patriots in 2010 as an undrafted free agent out of Montana State. He played for the Patriots from 2010 to 2013 before leaving for the Buccaneers for one season. Fletcher also missed the entire 2012 season after tearing his ACL during the preseason.
Fletcher ends his career with 120 tackles, 4.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception.
The Patriots are left with Dont’a Hightower, Jamie Collins, Jonathan Freeny, Jon Bostic, Eric Martin, Kevin Snyder and Brandon King at linebacker. They also reportedly are signing ex-New Orleans Saints linebacker Ramon Humber.
