Mexico is the reigning king of men’s international soccer in North America, but Canada is a place “El Tri” hasn’t been able to conquer in generations.

Canada hosts Mexico on Friday at BC Place in Vancouver in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifying Fourth Round game. Mexico is favored to win, but that also has been the case in every trip to Canada it has made in the last 23 years.

Mexico is in good form under coach Juan Carlos Osorio. “El Tri” won both of its World Cup qualifiers so far this cycle and can take a giant step toward the Final Round with a victory over Canada.

Canada sits second behind Mexico in Group A with four points from its first two games. A win or draw against Mexico could leave Canada well-positioned to reach the Final Round for the first time since 1997.
