Liverpool is set to return to the site of one of its most memorable wins of the 2015-16 season.
The Reds will face Southampton on Sunday at St. Mary’s Stadium in a Premier League game between two teams that are familiar to one another. The teams have played twice already this season, with Southampton snatching a Premier League point on Oct. 25 at Anfield and Liverpool hammering the Saints 6-1 on Dec. 2 in the Capital One Cup finals.
The teams currently are tied on points with 44, but Liverpool has two games in hand. The outcome of Sunday’s contest could go a long way toward determining whether Liverpool or Southampton qualifies for one of next season’s European competitions.
The game also will represent a reunion for Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne, who joined the Reds from the Saints last summer, and Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana, who left Southampton for Anfield in the summer of 2014.
