The Carolina Hurricanes moved from Hartford in the late 1990s and looked to establish hockey as a viable sport in America’s southern region.

Those early Hurricanes teams had varying levels of success, making the Stanley Cup playoffs in three of their first five seasons, reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2002.

A few of those players — the ones who came from Hartford and helped the Hurricanes grow in Carolina — have honored by the club by having their numbers retired. One of those players is a former Bruin.
