April Fools’ Day In Sports: Looking At How Sports World ‘Celebrates’

It’s April Fools’ Day, and it’s Friday. This could get dangerous.

Social media is a huge part of our lives and is responsible for how we consume just about everything. That’s usually a good thing, but on April Fools’ Day, it gives companies and brands a chance to get some viral traction by playing (usually) lame jokes on their followers.

The sports world, of course, is no different. Here’s a look at how some teams and brands are going for the big laughs on April Fools’ Day. Be careful out there, folks.

University of Oregon football
Here’s another one that’s not horrible because again, it’s kind of believable. Would anyone be that surprised if the Ducks did something like this? After all, it fits right in with their “innovative” uniform designs.

Sports Illustrated’s The Cauldron
The Cauldron went all in with their April Fools’ Day joking, doing a lot of work for a fairly unbelievable story. Fear not, ‘Nova fans. The Wildcats will still take the court Saturday in Houston.

Le’Veon Bell
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ star running back checked in Friday morning with the go-to move for players: the “I’m no longer on the team” joke. Classic.
