BOSTON — We all knew the Red Sox had something special in store for David Ortiz’s final home opener at Fenway Park.

But they really outdid themselves with this one.

A special celebration for Ortiz before Monday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles culminated in an awesome moment, as the Red Sox slugger himself threw out the ceremonial first pitch alongside three Boston sports legends: former New England Patriots cornerback Ty Law, legendary Boston Bruins defenseman Bobby Orr and Boston Celtics icon Bill Russell.

For those keeping score at home, that’s 19 combined championships — 11 for Russell, three apiece for Ortiz and Law and two for Orr — in a five-foot vicinity at Fenway Park.

They don’t call Boston the “City of Champions” for nothing.

The Red Sox had one more great moment in store, as Ortiz was joined by former teammates Jason Varitek and Pedro Martinez to utter the two words Red Sox fans had been waiting to hear.
