It’s been a rough few days for Doc Rivers, and his emotions got the best of him Wednesday night.

The Los Angeles Clippers coach teared up and got real emotional during his pregame news conference after he was asked about the recent injuries to stars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. The coach was asked who in his life he turns to when the stress starts to get to him.

The question immediately brought to Rivers’ mind his mother, who passed away last June. That was enough for Rivers to get choked up.

Rivers has shown a willingness to open up and share his emotions in the past, and this obviously is no different.

Things didn’t get a whole lot better later in the night. While the Clippers fought hard, they still lost 108-98 to the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series. The win gave Portland a 3-2 series lead, and the Blazers can finish off the Clippers on Friday night.
