It was only the second inning, but a terrific, heads-up play from Dustin Pedroia made a huge difference for the Boston Red Sox in Wednesday night’s 4-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
O’s shortstop J.J. Hardy began the top of the second inning by shooting a ball past outfielder Mookie Betts and to the right field wall. When Betts bobbled the ball, Hardy took a turn for third and would have led off the inning with a triple, but Pedroia made a terrific running cutoff from right field and turned to throw Hardy out at third on a bang-bang play.
Pedroia talked about the play on NESN’s “Red Sox Final.” Check out his comments in the video above.
